News from WIMS for February

WIMS News for February 2006


Enrollment: 166

Third Quarter Progress Reports have been mailed to parents/guardians.

Twila and I met with each student who was failing 3 or more classes to design academic plans for each student.

Grade level teams had met to alert parents of students who are at risk of repeating their grade. I have sent out letters informing parents/guardians of their students’ status.

Mary Crisco, School Improvement External Chair, evaluated our Action Plan and we scored 100 points out of 100 points.

Conferences:
February 17-21 – Pam Frederick will attend Leadership Training for Partners
Schools in Seattle, WA (2nd Meeting) – University of
Washington

March 6-7- Sherry Spofford, Dawn Hedges, and Pam Frederick will be
Attending the School Improvement Conference in Casper


Events:

Federal Programs is holding Hunter Safety Classes for our students. The classes are being held twice a week after school for 6 weeks. The class prepares the students to take the exam so they will be able to hunt on state land.
Archery Classes will start February 7th, 2006
Basic Cooking Classes will be held every Wednesday.
Federal Programs held a conference February 3 and 4th “Celebrating Indian Control in Indian Schools”

Sports:

Girls’ Basketball had their last home game February 2, 2005. Both the A and B teams won against St. Stephans,

Welcome Back!
WIMS will be ready for students on August 18th! Please come and register before school begins. We are looking forward in seeing old and new faces. We have 6 new staff members joining us this August. Also remember if you want to play sports you must have a new sports phyical before you begin practice.

Our school has completed a review of student performance of required state academic testing to determine if all of our students and selected subgroups are making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) toward reaching high academic standards of proficiency.

Our school did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for 2 or more consecutive years and is identified under the classification of School Improvement. This classification means that the school has not made AYP for 2 consecutive years. The school must develop or revise a 2- year school improvement plan in consultation with parents, school/district staff, and outside experts for the approval of the state.

School staff developing and implementing a comprehensive plan that includes:
Identified areas of concern in the areas of Math and Reading/Language Arts
In-service training on teaching strategies addressing areas of above
Measuring students academic growth with relevant assessments
Students will increase time reading independently

Remedial Math and Reading/Language Arts classes are provided for students who are not successful in classrooms with inventions
Students are provided with after school tutoring

October 2009
Dear WIMS Families,

Our first 9 weeks of school will be over on October 16th. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held October 28 and 29, 2008, 4:00PM to 8:00PM. You may pick up your student’s report card. Also, please come and see how your student is doing with our Direct Instruction Reading and Math classes.
There will not be school on Friday, October 30, 2009.

We are looking for parents to join us on our School Improvement Team. If you are interested please contact Sherry Spofford at 332-2992. We need your input.

October 22nd and 23rd will be Teacher In-service Days, so there will be no school for students those 2 days.

Remember students must be eligible to participate in after school programs and sports. Students may work off the ineligibility list by completing work in all subjects they are currently failing. If you want to know your student’s status per ineligibility please call the office Friday morning of each week.

Also remember if you have any questions per 8th grade activities please contact the 8th grade sponsors. They are Jana Myer, Tina Scott, and Sherry Spofford.

The following students have won our $100.00 weekly drawing for perfect attendance: Tenielle Johnston, Brandon Bell, and Lauren Antelope.
